This makes a moist, dense dessert that a pleasant change from heavy chocolate.
1/2 C. butter, softened 1 C. sugar 1 egg, beaten 1 tsp. vanilla extract 1 C. flour 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg 1 large apple, peeled, cored and chopped 1/2 C. chopped walnuts
Cream butter and sugar, beat in egg and vanilla. Sift dry ingredients and work into the first mixture. Mix in apples and walnuts; batter will be stiff. Spread into a buttered 8x8x-inch baking dish and bake at 350 degrees 35-45 minutes. Yield: 12 servingsAdapted from "Apple Cookbook" by Olwen Woodier
