4 Tips For a More Organized Kitchen

The kitchen is a place we spend a lot of time in: whether it is cooking, entertaining, or just grabbing a snack, we always seem to find ourselves there. But a lot of times, we neglect to keep it organized. Here are some simple tips to make the most out of your kitchen space, whether your kitchen is small or large.

Clear-Doored Cabinets- If you’re considering a remodel or just something simple to make your kitchen more organized, go with clear-doored cabinets. You can still use an accent color or wood for the trim, but being able to see inside of the cabinets will force you to keep them cleaner, since you’ll always be looking at the problem. There are even clear-doored refrigerators now!

Hang Everything You Can- We couldn’t recommend magnetic knife boards any more highly. We like to take it a step further and use heavy-duty magnets to hang metal cookware. It’s great for letting them air dry and displaying them in a new way. We also like a smaller magnet board to hold small metal canisters of spices, like Alton Brown.

Group Similar Items- Many times, we toss things into a drawer without thinking. Why not make it simple and group similar items together. Why not have a drawer dedicated to knife storage, use a vase to hold spoons, whisks, and spatulas, and devote the first few shelves of your pantry to canned goods? You’ll find yourself easily sticking to this practice, which makes upkeep a cinch.

Use Counter Space Wisely- The counter is meant to be used, and that definitely includes storing some items on it, just don’t get carried away. If you like to have toast in the mornings, leave your toaster on the counter. If you like to make smoothies every night, keep the blender there too. But if you only drink coffee on the weekends, put the coffee maker away until you’re ready to use it. Just because something is expected to sit on a counter doesn’t mean it has to be.
