What are Pickled Eggs?
Pickled eggs are a delicacy in Britain and are often served in Fish N' Chip shops. Much like anything else that has been preserved by pickling, they are simply hard-boiled eggs that have been de-shelled and sit in a vinegar solution (salt, vinegar and other spices) for days or weeks. or even months. Pickling began as a way to preserve food through different seasons or for traveling.
Pickled Eggs Recipe:
5 Star Pickled Eggs with Jalapenos, Habaneras and Tabasco
These strong eggs are just right for those eaters who just can't get enough spice.
3 dozen hard-boiled eggs (peeled)
1 qt. Heinz Distilled White Vinegar
1 onion (sliced)
1 Tbs. mustard seed
1 Tbs. dill seed
1 Tbs. red pepper seed
1 Tbs. black pepper or peppercorns
6 cloves of fresh garlic
1 jar (16 oz.) jalapeño peppers with juice
1 jar (16 oz.) habanera peppers with juice
10 dashes Tabasco sauce
Place all the ingredients except the hard-boiled eggs in a covered pot and boil for 15 minutes. Place the hard-boiled eggs in a glass jar and cover them with hot pickling mixture until the eggs are completely covered. If there is not enough vinegar, you may add some hot water to the vinegar solution. Marinate the eggs in this solution, in the refrigerator, for 7 days before serving. The longer they marinate, the more robust the flavor!
