Hummus Recipes, Tips & Videos

Hummus is rapidly becoming the go-to snack or appetizer for heart-healthy people. Loaded with those Mediterranean staples of olive oil and or chickpeas, it's delicious and satisfying. At Recipe4Living we have some great recipes for making and cooking with hummus.


Hummus Recipes


Easy to make, includes garbanzo beans and clove garlic.


1 15 1/2 oz. can garbanzo beans, drained, reserve liquid

3 Tbs. tahini (sesame paste)

2 Tbs. olive oil

1 Tbs. lemon juice

1 peeled clove garlic

1 tsp. ground cumin

Salt and pepper to taste


In a blender or food processor, whirl garbanzos, tahini (sesame paste), olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, and cumin until smooth. Thin with a few tablespoons reserved liquid if desired. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Shredded Beef and Hummus Wraps

The description doesn't do these sandwiches much justice, but they are always a huge hit when I serve them! Photos can't capture the amazing aroma throughout the house, after the beef has been cooking all day. They can't capture the crunch of the lettuce, or the juiciness of the sandwich. These are easy to make for a weeknight dinner or even a weekend gathering of friends. Simple and delicious -- what more could you ask for?


1 3-lb. rump roast

4 lg. garlic cloves, minced

1 sm. red onion, halved and sliced

1-1/2 tsp. kosher salt

1/4 tsp. freshly ground pepper

1/4 tsp. red pepper flakes

1 14-oz. can fire-roasted crushed tomatoes (Muir Glen)

10-12 8-inch whole wheat tortillas

1 8-oz. container roasted garlic hummus

1 head green or red leaf lettuce


Place rump roast into a 5-qt. crockpot. Sprinkle garlic, onion, salt, pepper and red pepper flakes over meat. Pour tomatoes over the top, cover, and cook on low for 8-10 hours until meat is very tender and shreds easily.

Divide hummus among the tortillas, spreading evenly. Divide the lettuce among the tortillas, placing over the hummus. Take 3/4 cup of the shredded beef and place over the lettuce; fold sandwiches in half and serve hot.
