It’s Time to Celebrate Memorial Day

Memorial Day weekend kicks off the unofficial start of summer. This holiday is observed on the last Monday of May and commemorates all the United States women and men who have died in military service. What better way to honor and celebrate this holiday than gathering some friends and family and host the first unofficial party of the summer?

Bring some style and fun to your party by putting up decorations with a red, white and blue color scheme. Purchase some colored plant holders and plant beautiful red and white flowers in them. Place each plant somewhere outside where all your guests can see them. To add more to this color scheme, place red, white and blue placemats on the patio and kitchen tables along with some colorful plastic silverware, cups and plates.

Since the party’s theme is red, white and blue you should go out and find some miniature flags and place them in vases; these are good centerpieces. Let each guest take a flag home with them when the party is over.

If you want to go all out, and if you have the time, buy some small paper bags decorate them to look like American flags. If you have children this is a fun project they can help you with. Fill each bag with some sand to make it stand up. Once you have the bags filled, go outside and place them up and down your driveway and walkway.

In honor of the nice weather, kick off summer by grilling on the barbecue. Below are some great and simple recipes you can serve. You can also make your life easier by assigning your friends and family specific dishes to bring.

Dips are always good to have around for this type of party. Since grilling can take a while and everyone wants to talk and catch up before they eat, set a few of these out on different tables. That way your guests can snack on something without getting too stuffed before the main meal.
