National Peanut Butter Lovers' Month
From the lowly PB&J sandwich to a high-end ingredient, peanut butter has come a long way since 1884 when the first patent was issued to Marcellus Gilmore Edson of Montreal, Quebec. He invented a machine that would grind and mill roasted peanuts until they had achieved a semi-liquid state. Several minor adjustments later and peanut butter has become a nutritious protein substitute for children of all ages.
So in celebration of all things peanut butter, November is designated National Peanut Butter Lover Month. Peanut butter is found in 75% of American households and is considered a staple like bread and milk. But in recent years, top chefs have started using peanut butter to create high end dishes such as soups, kabobs, savory sauces, tangy salads, and exotic main courses. Some cuisines such as Thai use peanut butter as one of the main ingredients in their dishes.
