While everyone is grabbing seconds during Thanksgiving dinner, I am patiently waiting for the desserts. The pumpkin pie to be exact. I am a huge fan of fall because its baking time in our house. We love to open all the windows and bake the day away. My favorite thing to make is pumpkin pie. It brings back memories of my grandma and Thanksgivings at her house and good times spent with family.

The great thing about pumpkin pie is that its an easy holiday dessert recipe to make and everyone loves it.  Plus you can make a traditional pumpkin pie or mix it up and get creative. Either way you choose its easy to master the pumpkin pie.

Lets start from the bottom with the crust.  The crust is the foundation of your whole pie, so without a solid base the rest will suffer. If you have a great crust everything else will come together. You can either make a homemade crust or buy one. The key is to make one that's equal parts flaky and soft.

Once you have your pie crust ready, its time to fill it with pumpkin goodness.  This is where it gets fun.  You have two options - go the classic route or get creative with your pumpkin pie.  Classic pumpkin pie consists of pumpkin pie puree, eggs, evaporated milk, sugar and various spices.

You can take the classic and give it a new twist.  Add chocolate to your pie, or make it into a cheesecake.  You can use nuts, make mini pies, or go crazy and try a salted caramel pumpkin pie. Even something as simple as the whiskey and Vermont maple syrup that go into the Famous Pumpkin Pie above will set you apart.

The great thing about pumpkin pie is that you can add almost anything to it and it still comes out great.  What's important is who you are sharing the pie with that really matters.  And whatever pumpkin pie recipe you decide to make for Thanksgiving, there is one thing you can't forget - the whipped cream!

This Thanksgiving, skip the store and make your own! It's easier than you think!
