Sneaky Snake: Substitutions with Greek Yogurt
Instead of crawling into a corner and assuming the fetal position, I immediately put on my cook’s cap (a casual version of the chef’s hat) and thought of what I could use as a substitute. Eventually, I stumbled on an article claiming that Greek yogurt makes the perfect swap. Despite my initial eye-roll at the concept, I tried it out. Perfect it is.
To me, the taste is so similar that I can just dollop some Gree-Yo onto my nachos and it passes for sour cream. In case you are wondering Greek Yogurt and I are on a first name basis.
So far, I’ve even used it on some strawberries with a light sprinkling of brown sugar. Delicious. If you’ve read some of my other articles on here, you know that I can’t bake to save my life (just Google baking inept and look who’s there). However, I have heard that Greek yogurt is a fantastic substitute for sour cream in baked dishes, too!
Here are some of your favorite recipes that use sour cream. Try subbing in some Greek Yogurt next time, you won’t regret it!
Bacon and Sour Cream Chicken Crockpot: Bring home the bacon with this Bacon and Sour Cream Chicken Crockpot recipe. A little prep and a few hours in the crockpot make this a too good to be true meal.
Dan’s Loaded Nachos: I love nachos. Chips, cheese, jalapenos, and all the trimmings. Since I can't have meat because of my transition to a vegetarian diet, this is one of my go-tos lately.
Sour Cream Corn Bread: Solve the problem of dry corn bread with the moistening effect of sour cream and creamed corn.
Luscious Lobster Rolls: I put an alliteration in the name, so you know it's good. Plus, you can make mini-versions of these as the perfect appetizer for your next party!
