Facing the winter months doesn't have to be all gray and snow if you're a salad lover. Winter only means that spring is just around the corner, and spring means a fresh salad wonderland is on the horizon! Even if you love salad with a passion, it's easy to get bored with the same old green salad mixes with nothing but a dressing to spruce things up. Here are just a few ideas for how you can add not only flavor, but an eye catching aesthetic value to your salads this spring.

- Add Meat:  Now, don't misunderstand.  We all know that one reason people eat salads is because they are health conscious.  While you can add practically any meat to a salad with tasty results (a personal favorite of mine is beef tips), if you are more health minded in the makeup of your salad, you may want to stick with baked and grilled chicken or fish.

- Add Fruit:  There aren't many ways you can go wrong with adding fruit to any salad.  Not only is it virtually always a healthy option, but it can also do a lot to enhance the flavor of your salads as well as adding beautiful smells and colors into the mix.  If you're a spinach lover, try adding fresh orange slices or dried cranberries into your salads whenever spinach is involved.

- Add Spice:  No, not that powdered stuff that comes in a jar at the supermarket!  Add fresh cut peppers, being careful to remember whether or not your taste buds can handle anything more spicy than a bell pepper.  This can add a lot of color into your salads.  For a huge explosion of flavor, consider sauteing those peppers first!
