This dessert is melt-in-your-mouth yummy! It's a Christmas tradition that has been in my family for as long as I can remember! This recipe makes about three dozen, depending on size of the balls.

Time needed

60 min preparation + 35 min cooking

Ingredients

  • 1 C. butter or margarine
  • 1/4 C. confectioner's (powdered) sugar
  • 2 C. all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1 C. ground, blanched and skinned almonds
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 18 cherries, candied and cut in half

Directions

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Cream butter or margarine with sugar until fluffy. Add all other ingredients, except the cherries, and mix well. Take 1 Tbs. of the mixture and roll it into a ball. Push a candied cherry that has been cut in half into the center of the ball, and roll into a ball again. Bake at 325 degrees on a greased baking sheet or silpat for 35 minutes. After 35 minutes, take the hot balls out, and roll them in powdered sugar from the baking tray.
