Amaretto Brownies

Add an extra flavor to ordinary brownies with amaretto.

Ingredients

  • Brownies:
  • 1 1/2 C. sugar
  • 2/3 C. vegetable oil
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1 C. flour
  • 2/3 C. unsweetened cocoa
  • 1/4 C. Amaretto
  • 1 C. almonds, chopped
  • Frosting:
  • 16 oz. confectioner's sugar
  • 1/2 C. butter
  • 1/4 C. buttermilk
  • 1/4 C. unsweetened cocoa
  • 2/3 C. nuts, chopped (optional)

Directions

Combine all brownie ingredients in a large bowl and mix well. Spread into a greased 13x 9-inch baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Allow cooling before frosting. To make frosting, melt butter in a saucepan and add buttermilk and cocoa, slowly add confectioners’ sugar and continue stirring until smooth. Frost cooled brownies and sprinkle with nuts if desired.

The Skinny: Use your favorite sugar substitute for the sugar in the brownies and frosting. Use low fat milk or light Half & Half instead of buttermilk in the frosting.
