A simple cookie to satisfy your simple cravings.

  • 1 C. vegetable shortening
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 1/2 C sugar
  • 3 C. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 C. sour milk, buttermilk or sour cream
  • Cinnamon and sugar

Cream together vegetable shortening, eggs and sugar. Sift flour, then measure. Sift flour again with baking powder, salt, baking soda and nutmeg. Add dry ingredients and sour milk, buttermilk, or sour cream to the creamed mixture. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar and bake 11 minutes at 400 degrees. Do not chill dough.

  • It seems as if there are a lot of inexperienced cooks who look at this site and I have often thought the same thing as dshupe59, but they may just be that---Inexperienced. From a seasoned cook of over 44 years, it doesn't pay to get angry, just educate them and that is what we are here for. If you have made drop cookies in the past, making this recipe is easy and sounds delicious. Being inexperienced doesn't make them dumb, just questioning. If I have the answers at any time, I will tell you.

  • First Id Like to say Thanks Harold for sharing a Great Cookie Recipe. I made these cookies and they have a great "Old World" flavor to them. And Yes These are what I would call drop cookies. Drop by small table spoons onto a lightly greased cookie sheet. I suggest drop each cookie at about 2 inch apart. (They will spread out and rise.) For the Cinnamon and suger Sprinkles; In a Small bowl I mixed 1/2 cup of sugar and 1 tsp. of cinnamon plus I added 1 tsp. of Nutmeg. This recip

  • What is wrong with you people? Havent you ever made cookies before, it's very simple, just drop by teaspone onto a cookie sheet and cook for about 8-10 minutes.

  • This recipe is incomplete. After mixing it doesn't tell you what to do with thedough, poll it drop it, it just says don't chill it. It makes it sound like you put the whole thing on I assume a cookie sheet sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar and bake the whole thing. Very unclear.
