Ingredients
- 4 C. fresh whole wheat bread crumbs
- 1/2 C. melted butter
- 1 C. sugar
- 2 tsp. cinnamon
- 10-12 apples
- 1 lemon
- 1 C. orange juice
- light cream (or whipped topping)
Directions
Toss bread crumbs with melted butter. Grate lemon rind and squeeze juice from lemon. Combine lemon juice and rind, sugar, and cinnamon. Peel and slice apples. In a 9x13-inch cake pan, layer crumbs, apples, and sugar. Repeat, ending with crumbs. Pour orange juice evenly over top. Bake covered at 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Uncover and bake 15 minutes more. Serve hot or cold with cream or whipped topping.
