Want to add bacon in your soup, because BACON?! Try this bacon and bean soup to satisfy your bacon cravings. This is not your ordinary pinto beans and bacon soup, in fact, there are no pinto beans! Switch it up with navy beans to combine the bacon for that powerful flavor.

  • 1/2 pound navy beans
  • 5 cups chicken broth (or vegetable broth)
  • 2 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup onion, minced
  • 2 small cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon marjoram
  • 1/4 pound bacon, chopped
  • Salt and pepper to season

In a mid-sized pot, pour 1 cup of water and boil ½ pound of navy beans for a few minutes. When the beans are boiled, turn off the heat and let the beans soak for an hour. After the hour is up, drain the beans.
In a large stockpot, add the beans and 5 cups of chicken broth and let it boil. As the soup is boiling, remove the scum it produces.
In medium sauté pan or frying pan, melt the butter and cook the garlic and onion until it becomes translucent. Then, add in the chopped bacon and stir for 10 minutes in medium heat.
Add the garlic, onion, marjoram and bacon mixture into the soup. Season with salt and pepper.
