Ingredients

  • 4 med. cooking apples
  • 1/4 C. walnuts, chopped
  • 1/4 C. golden raisins
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cloves
  • 1 C. water
  • 1/2 C. sugar
  • 1/2 C. honey
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • whipped cream

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Core apples, being careful not to cut through the bottom. Pare 1/2-inch at the same end. Combine walnuts, raisisn, 1 tsp. sugar, the ground cinnamon and the ground cloves. Fill the center of the apples with the mixture. Place apples in an 8x8-inch baking pan. In a small saucepan, combine water, 1/2 C. sugar, honey, lemon juice and cinnamon stick. Bring to a boil. Simmer for 2 minutes. Pour over apples. Bake in oven until tender, about 45 minutes, basking occasionally with syrup from the pan. Serve warm or let cool. Chill and serve cold. Accompany apples with whipped cream.
