  • 1 C. milk
  • 1 ½ tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ T. vanilla custard powder
  • ½ C. sugar
  • 1 can apple pie filling
  • 1 C. flour
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • ½ tsp. nutmeg
  • 1 stick butter

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a saucepan, bring milk and vanilla extract to a boil. In a bowl, whisk together 1 ½ tablespoons of the custard powder, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and 2 tablespoons of cold water. Steadily pour hot milk mixture into powder, whisking constantly. Return mix to saucepan and return to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer, stirring for about 3 minutes until mixture thickens slightly. In a baking dish, spoon in apple pie filling at the bottom. Pour hot custard over the apples. In a small bowl, combine flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and remaining custard powder and sugar. Cut in butter until crumbly and spread over custard. Bake for 30 minutes until golden.
