Strawberry, nutmeg, and lemon create a fresh, summery tasting dessert.

  • 2 C. all purpose flour
  • ½ C. packed light brown sugar
  • 1 tsp. grated lemon rind
  • 1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 C. (1 ½ sticks:) unsalted butter
  • 1 jar (12 oz.) strawberry jelly

Heat oven to 375 F. Grease a 9 x 9 x 2" square baking pan. Combine flour, sugar, lemon rind, nutmeg and salt in large bowl. Cut in butter with pastry blender until mixture is crumbly. Set aside 1 C. Pat remaining mixture into pan. Spread jelly evenly over top of dough in pan, leaving 1/4" border all around edges. Sprinkle with reserved 1 C. flour mixture. Bake in 375 F. oven for 40 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool in pan on wire rack. Cut into bars.
