Sliders are the perfect way to eat burgers. They're filled with all the toppings and flavors, only smaller. These burgers are perfect to whip up for a midweek meal, barbecue, or birthday party.

  • 2 lb. ground beef (80 percent lean and 20 percent fat)
  • 1 Tbs. olive oil
  • 12 slices orange cheddar cheese
  • 12 small ciabatta buns
  • 4 oz. lettuce
  • 3 medium tomatoes, sliced in 1/8-inch-thick rounds
  • 2 small onions, sliced in 1/8-inch-thick rounds
  • 5 half-sour pickles
  • Ketchup, for serving

Build a charcoal fire or heat a gas grill.
Shape the hamburger meat into 12 (2-inch) patties of equal size and thickness.
When the grill is medium-hot, brush the grill grate with oil.
Place the sliders on the grill and cook for 4 minutes. Flip and cook for another 4 to 6 minutes, until medium-rare, or longer if you prefer them more well done. For the last 2 minutes of cooking time, place one slice of cheese on the top of each burger and close the grill lid. Remove the sliders to a platter and cover with foil.
On each bottom bun, in this order, place desired amount of ketchup, one slider (with cheese), desired amount of onion, slice of tomato, lettuce, sliced pickles,
Cover with the top of the bun and serve hot with ketchup.
