Here is a super spooky dark chocolate cake that your little ghouls will love for Halloween!

1 cake


  • 1 3/4 C. all-purpose flour
  • 2 C. white sugar
  • 3/4 C. unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 C. strong brewed coffee
  • 1 C. buttermilk
  • 1/2 C. vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour one 9x13" pan. In large bowl combine flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Make a well in the center. Add eggs, coffee, buttermilk, oil and vanilla. Beat for 2 minutes on medium speed. Batter will be thin. Pour into prepared pans. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until toothpick inserted into center of cake comes out clean. Cool for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and finish cooling on a wire rack.

Tip: I drizzle the cake with the white icing (pre-made in the tube that you buy at the store) and make the cake you like spider webs all over it. The kids like corn candy so I'll let them put those on top, too.
