The ingredients give this casserole a taste similar to sweet potato pie, yet the dish goes great alongside meals as low-key as chicken dinners or as high volume as festive holiday banquets. But the best part is, if you’re planning to use this for entertaining, you can make everything but the streusel a day ahead so you won’t have to break a sweat in front of your guests.

  • 3 ½-4 lbs sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1” pieces
  • 24 Tbs (1/2 stick) butter
  • ¾ light brown sugar
  • ½ cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp kosher salt
  • 1 tbl vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups mini marshmallows
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 4 Tbs unsalted butter
  • 6 Tbs light brown sugar
  • ¼ Old fashioned rolled oats
  • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon

Fill large pot with water and potatoes. Bring to a boil over high heat. Cook until fork tender. Drain potatoes and place back in pot. Mash, or blend, until smooth. Add rest of ingredients, except topping ingredients, mix until combined fully. Preheat oven to 350 F. Grease a 8x10, 8x8 or 9x9 casserole dish. Spoon sweet potatoes into dish and smooth. Sprinkle with marshmallows. Melt butter in sauce pan, add remaining ingredients and mix. Layer on top of sweet potato and marshmallows. Bake for 20-25 min until streusel is crisp and marshmallows are golden brown.
