This version of Stromboli is the perfect breakfast surprise for your man. Just the smell of it baking in the oven will surely put a sweet smile on his face! I send this with my husband to work and the office crew went crazy over it!

Ingredients

  • 6-7 eggs
  • 12 slices Swiss cheese or yellow American deli style slices
  • 12 slices deli style ham
  • 1 tsp. chopped garlic
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 bunch chopped fresh parsley or 1 tsp. dried
  • 1 Tbs. butter, plus more if needed
  • 1 small can sliced mushrooms
  • 1/4 C. onion, chopped (optional)
  • Pizza dough, prepared or homemade
  • 1 prepared pizza dough - from refrigerated section of grocery store
  • one egg white mixed with small amt. of water OR melted butter
  • garlic powder- if desired
  • parmesan cheese - if desired
  • * Ground sausage can be substituted for the ham, or your favorite meat, like bacon. I've made this using spinach with bacon before, YUM! Be creative.

Directions

Preheat oven 375 degrees.

Crack eggs in large bowl, add salt, pepper, parsley, garlic and diced onion, if desired, and a couple tablespoons of milk or water. Beat well, pour in skillet over melted butter and scramble them until almost done.

Meanwhile, roll out pizza dough on floured surface into rectangle. Layer with cheese slices - avoiding the edges. Top evenly with ham slices and spread mushrooms over top. Roll up jelly roll style, lengthwise, starting from a long side. Carefully transfer to greased cookie sheet or baking dish. Cut slits in dough every 3" across, brush with egg wash or melted butter, sprinkle with garlic powder, if desired. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese, if desired.

  • Yes, the eggs are spread over the top of the cheese, sorry, prior to rolling the dough up and baking it. They do not get over-cooked, as it comes out perfect, give it a try. :)

  • Are the 6-7 eggs that are almost done served on the side or are they also put on the pizza dough? Otherwise they are going to be way over done while the stromboli cooks for 25 minutes.
