Brown Betty Twists It Up With Granny Smith

This is just a fun and new way to make a Brown Betty. I have found that there is really no way to screw up a Brown Betty, so I just twisted it up a little! My favorite apple is a Granny Smith so that is what I used in this little jewel!

Ingredients

  • 8 Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and thinly sliced
  • 3/4 C. apple juice concentrate, undiluted
  • 1/2 C. raisins
  • 2/3 C. whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 C. granola
  • 1/4 C. toasted sunflower seeds
  • 1/4 C. brown sugar
  • 3 Tbs. margarine

Directions

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Combine apples, juice concentrate, raisins, 3 tablespoons flour and cinnamon in large bowl. Spoon into 11x7x1 1/2-inch baking dish. Combine granola, remaining flour, sunflower seeds and brown sugar. Stir in melted margarine and mix until crumbly. Sprinkle over apple mixture, bake until apples are tender and top is golden, 1 hour.
