Burger King Inspired Onion Rings
Serving Size / Yield
- 2 medium white onions, finely chopped
- 2 C. low-fat milk, divided
- 1 1/2 C. whole wheat flour
- 2 C. breadcrumbs, divided
- 1 tsp. garlic powder
- vegetable oil
- sea salt
Take out a bowl and mix together the onions, 1 cup breadcrumbs and 1 tablespoon milk. Once thoroughly combined, use 2 tablespoons of this mixture to create small rings. Transfer the rings onto an aluminum foil lined baking sheet and freeze them for about an hour. Once they are finished freezing, set aside. Heat the oil to 350 degrees F and then take out a medium bowl. Combine the garlic powder with the remaining breadcrumbs inside of this bowl. Take out another medium bowl and mix together the flour and remaining milk.
Dip each onion ring into the flour-milk mixture and then dip them inside the breadcrumb mixture. Once all of the rings are evenly coated in both mixtures, fry them 1 handful at a time for about 3 minutes, which is around how long it should take for the rings to turn golden brown. When finished, place the rings on paper towels so they can drain properly. Lightly salt the rings to your liking and serve.
