Coat okra pieces with some Cajun spice and deep-fry them to a delicious crunch. Vegetables never tasted so good!

  • 1 lb fresh okra; cut to 1/2-inch slices
  • 1 C flour
  • 1 C buttermilk
  • ½ C cornmeal
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • ¼ tsp cumin
  • ¼ tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp cayenne pepper
  • Salt
  • Pepper

Prepare a pot for deep frying.

In a bowl, add ½ C of flour and a pinch of salt and pepper.

In a different bowl, add in the remaining flour and cornmeal.

In the next bowl, add in the garlic powder, oregano, salt, pepper, cumin, onion powder and cayenne powder. Mix well.

Then in a different bowl, pour in the buttermilk. Add about ¼ tsp of the spice mix into the buttermilk and mix.

When you are ready, coat the okra piece with the flour then into the buttermilk then into the cornmeal mixture and then the spices mix. Deep fry them until the outside turns golden brown.

Make sure the okra pieces are well coated.

Once the pieces are fried, place them on a paper towel and repeat till everything has been fried.

Season with a little extra spices before serving hot. Enjoy!
