  • ¾ cup white sugar
  • ¼ cup cherry preserves
  • 2/4 cup tart cherries
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 2 pastry dough disks
  • 6 peeled, quartered, cored apples
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 4 ½ tablespoons cornstarch

Slice the apples crosswise. Mix the sugar, cornstarch, cloves and cinnamon together in a large bowl. Then add the apples, cherries, and cherry preserves and mix well. Lightly flour a clear surface and roll out 1 dough disk to be a 13-inch round. Move the dough to a pie dish and brush the inside and crust with the beaten egg. Spoon the apple cherry mixed filling into the crust. Roll out the other dough disk and cut a small hole in the center before placing it over the filling. Seal the two pie disks and trim the overhanging dough. Crimp the edge and brush the crust with more egg. Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes at 400 degrees F.
