The unique taste of malted milk makes these brownies more sophisticated.

Ingredients

  • 2 6 oz. jars maraschino cherries without stems
  • 3/4 C. butter, softened
  • 1 13 oz. jar chocolate malted milk powder
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 tsp. almond extract
  • 1 3/4 C. all purpose flour
  • 1 12 oz. pkg. semi-sweet mini chocolate chips
  • 1/2 C. confectioners' sugar, sifted
  • 1 Tbs. butter, melted

Directions

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 13x9 inch baking dish. Drain cherries, reserving liquid. Coarsely chop cherries. Set aside. In a large mixing bowl, beat softened butter on high for 30 seconds. Gradually add malted milk. Beat until mixture is crumbly. Beat in the eggs, 3 Tbs. reserved cherry liquid and the almond extract. Beat in the flour just until combined. Fold in chopped cherries and morsels.

Spread batter into the prepared baking dish. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the center is set. Cool completely in pan on a wire rack. In a bowl, combine confectioners' sugar, melted butter, and enough reserved cherry liquid to achieve a drizzling consistency. Drizzle over brownies. Cut into bars.

Yield: 2 dozen bars
