  • 2 C. all-purpose flour
  • 1 C. condensed milk
  • 1 C. shortening
  • 1/2 C. cold water
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2 C. cherries
  • 1 1/4 C. brown sugar
  • 10 tsp. cornstarch
  • 1 T. butter
  • 1/4 tsp. vanilla extract

MIx the shortening with the flour and salt until the crumbs are small. MIx in cold water until the dough is firm. Divide the dough in half and form it into two disks, wrap the two disks in plastic and refrigerate for 45 minutes. Then, roll out the disk into a circle. Remember, to preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Dip the cherries in condensed milk and then mix them in a saucepan with the sugar and cornstarch. Bol the cherry mixture over medium heat for about 5 minutes. Remove pan from heat, and stir it in with the butter and vanilla extract. Pour the filling into the pie shell. Cover with top crust, using your fingertips seal the edges and cut vents for steam.Bake for 50 minutes, until crust is golden brown.
