Most oatmeal cookie recipes call for baking powder, but its left out of this recipe so that you get a more sweet and chewy cookie rather that a thick and cakey one. This is my mom's own recipe that is a personal favorite of mine and my brother's. You could add the chocolate chips or raisins that you would normally put in oatmeal cookies, but these cookies are so awesome plain, they don't need any add-ins!!!

Ingredients

  • 1 C Brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 C Sugar
  • 1/3 C Butter
  • 1/3 C Shortening
  • 2 Eggs
  • tsp Vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
  • Dash of Salt
  • Tbs Cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp Nutmeg
  • 1 C Flour
  • 3 C Old Fashion Oats

Directions

Preheat oven to 350. First mix together the sugars, butter, and the shortening. Add the vanilla and all the spices. Then add eggs. Finally, add the cup of flour then the oats a little at a time. Drop the dough by the spoonful on a greased cookie sheet about an inch apart. Bake in the oven for 8-10 mins or until the edges are browned. Allow cookies to cool partially on cookie sheet. Remove from sheet and allow to cool fully on waxed paper. Enjoy!!!
