Chocolate Cake with Vanilla Sauce
Ingredients
- 2 C. all purpose flour
- 1 3/4 C. sugar
- 12 C. cocoa powder
- 1 Tbs. Baking soda
- 1 tsp. Salt optional
- 1 C. buttermilk
- 2/3 C. vegetable oil
- 1 tsp. Vanilla extract
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1 C. hot strong brewed coffee
- 1 C. sugar
- 2 Tbs. Cornstarch
- 1 C. water
- 2 Tbs. Unsalted butter
- 1 tsp. Vanilla extract
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 F. Sift first 5 ingredients together in a bowl. Add next 5 ingredients and combine. Batter will be thin. Pour into a buttered and floured 9x13 inch baking pan. Bake 30 minutes or until tester comes out clean when inserted in center. Combine sugar and cornstarch in a heavy saucepan. Add water. Bring to a boil over medium high heat, stirring constantly. When mixture begins to thicken, remove from heat. Stir in butter and vanilla. Serve sauce over cake.
