Chocolate Chai

Cocoa, cinnamon, and nutmeg turn a normal tea bag into a delicious cup of chai.

  • 1 tea bag containing a black tea, such as orange pekoe, Darjeeling, English breakfast or Lapsang souchong
  • 1/2 C. boiling water
  • 3 Tbs. sugar
  • 2 Tbs. Dutch-process cocoa powder
  • 2 C. milk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
  • Whipped cream

Pour boiling water over tea bag in a small saucepan. Cover and let stand 3 to 5 minutes. Remove tea bag. Stir in sugar and cocoa powder. Cook and stir over medium heat just till mixture comes to boiling. Stir in milk, vanilla, cinnamon and nutmeg; heat through. Do not boil. Pour into cups. Top each serving with a dollop of whipped cream.
