Chocolate Chip Panettone French Toast
Ingredients
- 8 slices chocolate chip panettone, cut into big slices (about 3/4-1 inch thick), halved
- 5-6 eggs, beaten (or equivalent amount of imitation eggs)
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1 pinch salt
Directions
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees. Have a baking sheet ready.
Whisk eggs and cinnamon. Melt a pat of butter in a cast-iron frying pan over medium heat. Dip a slice of bread into the mixture, pausing so that each side can absorb some liquid. Gently lay the slice into the buttered pan, and flip after 2 minutes or until golden; cook for an additional 2 minutes on the other side. Add chocolate chips to your liking just before you finish cooking the bread. Be careful not to burn the chocolate chips.
Place the slice on baking sheet, and put sheet in oven. Repeat process with remaining slices, adding them to the baking sheet and keeping them warm in the oven until ready to serve.
Serve with dusting of powdered sugar, and/or maple syrup, fruit and whipped cream if desired.
