Chocolate Sponge Candy
Ingredients
- 1 C. sugar
- 1 C. dark corn syrup
- 1 Tbs. cider vinegar
- 1 Tbs. baking soda
- 1 (6 oz.) package semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 C. finely chopped salted peanuts
Directions
Cook sand stir sugar, corn syrup and vinegar in 2-quart saucepan over medium heat until sugar is dissolved. Cook without stirring until candy thermometer registers 300 F, or until small amount of mixture dropped into very cold water separates into threads that are hard and brittle. Immediately remove from heat and stir in baking soda quickly. Pour into ungreased baking pan, 13x9x2 inches. Do not spread. Cool. Heat chocolate chips over low heat until melted; spread over candy. Sprinkle with peanuts. Refrigerate until chocolate is set, about 1 hour. Brake into pieces.
