Cincinnati Chili from a Cincinnatian

This Chili is Greek Chili and is different from any others listed. This recipe is the most accurate and is guaranteed to be like our two famous chili chains in Cincinnati. Most important factor in preparation for this chili is that you DO NOT brown the meat!

Ingredients

  • 2 lb. ground chuck
  • 2 large onions, chopped
  • 1 29 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 29 oz. water
  • 1/2 tsp. ground red pepper
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 oz. unsweetened Baker's chocolate
  • 2 Tbs. vinegar
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/2 tsp. ground allspice
  • 8 drops Tabasco sauce
  • 1/4 tsp. ground garlic powder
  • 4 heaping Tbs. ground chili powder
  • 1 tsp. cumin
  • 2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt

Directions

Place ground chuck, water, tomato sauce and onions in large pan and simmer for 30 minutes. Add the remaining ingredients and cook over low heat for 2 to 3 hours. Serve as chili or over spaghetti. 3 way or 4 way served with grated cheddar cheese and/or onions. Coney Island is a hot dog on bun with chili, onions and optional grated cheddar cheese.
