- 4 C. rolled oats
- 1 C. wheat germ or oat bran
- dash of nutmeg
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 C. finely-chopped walnuts
- 1/2 C. honey or maple syrup
- 2 Tbs. safflower oil
- 1 C. finely-chopped dried apples
- 1/2 C. raisins
Preheat the oven to 275 degrees and lightly grease two baking sheets. Combine the oats, wheat germ, cinnamon, nutmeg, and nuts in a mixing bowl. Combine the honey and oil in a separate container and drizzle it over the oat mixture, stirring constantly. Stir until the oats are evenly-covered.
Spread mixture onto baking sheets. Bake, stirring every ten minutes or so, until golden brown. This should take about 20 to 30 minutes.
Once the granola has cooled, stir in the dried fruit and store the granola in jars. This keeps up to 3 months in a cool, dry place.
