This bon bon cookie recipe is so versatile - you can use any fruits or nuts for the filling! I have fond memories of making these with my daughter and then my granddaughter.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 C. soft butter
  • 3/4 C. sifted powdered sugar
  • 1 Tbs. vanilla
  • 1 1/2 C. sifted flour
  • 1/8 tsp. salt
  • food coloring if desired
  • Filling options:
  • Green and Red Maraschino cherries, chocolate chips, nuts.
  • Frosting options:
  • Canned plain vanilla frosting, softened, tinted half red and half green
  • cocoa powder

Directions

Soften butter to room temperature. Mix the next 5 ingredients with the butter. Take about 1 inch of dough, roll a piece of fruit or nut in the center and mold into a ball. Bake at 350 degrees 1 inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet for 12-15 minutes. When cooled, roll cookies in the softened frosting or cocoa powder.
