Copycat Fruit Roll-Ups
Serving Size / Yield
- 4 C. chopped fresh fruit (apples, pears, grapes, etc.)
- 1/2 C. Water
- 1-3 tsp. lemon juice
- 1 Tbs. sugar (optional)
Rinse fruit. Peel and remove pits, cores and stems, then chop.
Taste fruit to see if it is sweet or tart. If sweet, you won't have to add sugar. If tart, you may need to add sugar in the following step.
In a saucepan, place 4 C. chopped fruit and 1/2 C. water. Bring to a simmer and cover it. Cook on low heat for 10-15 minutes, then uncover and stir. Mash fruit in pan and add 1 Tbsp. sugar if a sweeter taste is desired. Add 1 tsp. (or more) lemon juice to enhance fruity flavor.
Continue to let it simmer for 5-10 minutes. Stir until sugar completely dissovles and fruit puree thickens. Put puree through food processor.
Cover baking sheet with plastic, parchment paper or silicon baking pad and brush vegetable oil. Spread puree onto sheet with spatula or knife to 1/8-1/4 inch thickness. For 6-8 hours, place in oven or in the sun.
Flip fruit leather onto another baking sheet covered with plastic, parchment paper or silicon baking pad. For another 6-8 hours, place in oven or sun. If it becomes too dry, brush on water to rehydrate.
Cool tray and cut fruit leather. To prevent sticking, apply corn starch. Place in sealed container and store in a cool place.
