A healthy adaptation to the infamously sweet Pop-Tarts® snack.

Ingredients

  • Pastry:
  • 3 1/2 C. whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp. sea salt
  • 3/4 C. melted butter
  • 1 C. plain yogurt
  • organic jam, jelly, apples, mashed up strawberries
  • Glaze:
  • 1/2 C. organic powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbs. water or milk

Directions

Mix first 4 ingredients to make dough. Place dough on floured surface and roll.


Cut dough into two rectangles of same size. 


Add 1 tsp. jam or filling to middle of one side of pastry, and place equal-sized rectangles on top of each other. 

Press fork along the edge of the pastry to add a decorative seam. 


Place pastry on non-greased cookie sheet.


For 20-25 minutes, bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees until edges become golden brown. 


To prepare glaze, place organic powdered sugar in a bowl and stir 2 Tbs. water or milk 1 Tbs. at a time until it will drizzle easily onto pastry. 


Cool pastry and spread glaze. 


To enjoy them later, store in sealed container for 2 days, leave in refrigerator for 4 days or place in freezer for up to 3 months.
