This pre-1940's recipe was included in my grandma's Wartime Edition Cookbook.

  • 1/2 C. corn meal
  • 1 C. flour
  • 3 Tbs. baking powder
  • 1 Tbs. sugar
  • 1 Tbs. fat (Crisco)
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 C. milk
  • 1 egg

Directions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Mix and sift dry ingredients. Add milk and eggs gradually, and beat well. Add fat. Bake in greased muffin pans in 400-degree oven for approximately 25 minutes.
