Heat 4 cups of milk in a large saucepan using medium heat until the milk is steaming. While you are heating the milk, whisk the sugar, hot chocolate mix, ¼ teaspoon salt, and cornstarch in a large bowl. Then, whisk in the egg yolks and remaining ½ cup of milk. Gradually add half of the hot milk to the egg mixture. Be sure to whisk constantly until the mixture is smooth. Then slowly whisk the egg-milk mixture into the remaining hot milk still in the saucepan and bring to a boil, whisking constantly. Continue to heat and whisk until the mixture has thickened to a pudding consistency. This should take about 4 minutes. Remove the saucepan from the heat and stir in the vanilla. Next, let the pudding cool shortly and continue to stir. Place a piece of plastic wrap on the surface of the pudding and set in the refrigerator until it as completely cooled and thickened. This should be for about 4 hours. Finally, before serving, whisk the pudding intently until it is smooth and creamy. Add whipped cream.
