Although beef brisket is usually best made in a smoker outside, this recipe can be made in the crockpot. This makes it ideal for those who can't make it in a smoker. This brisket is smoky and succulent however you make it, though, so enjoy its great flavor.

  • 1 (7 lb.) beef brisket, flat cut
  • 4 Tbs. oil
  • 1 Tbs. salt
  • 1 Tbs. pepper
  • 1 Tbs. garlic powder
  • 1 Tbs. brown sugar
  • 1/2 Tbs. liquid smoke
  • 1 Tbs. paprika
  • 1 bottle BBQ sauce, for serving

In a bowl, mix all spices. Grease the brisket using the oil and sprinkle the meat with the seasonings, coating all the sides. Drizzle the liquid smoke over the brisket. Heat a large Dutch oven over high hear and sear the brisket on each side until it is crusted and golden brown. Place in the crockpot and cook on low heat for at least 7 hours. To prevent the brisket from drying out, you can add 1/2 C. of barbecue sauce to the crockpot.
