  • 2 1/2 C. flour
  • 1 C. shortening
  • 1 egg yolk
  • milk
  • 1 C. cornflakes
  • 8-10 tart apples, peeled, cored AND sliced
  • 1 C. sugar
  • 1 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 C. sifted powdered sugar
  • 3-4 tsp. milk

Stir together flour and 1 teaspoon of salt. Cut in shortening. In measuring cup, beat egg yolk, add enough milk to measure 2/3 cup. Mix well. Stir in flour mixture. On floured surface, roll half the dough to a 17x12-inch rectangle that will fit into bottom and up the sides of 15 1/2 x 10 1/2-inch baking sheet. Sprinkle with cornflakes, top with apples slices. Mix sugar, cinnamon and sprinkle over apples. Roll remaining 1/2 of dough to cover top of apples sealing edges. Cut slits on top. Beat egg white until frothy and brush on top. Bake at 375 degrees for 50 minutes.Mix together powdered sugar and 3-4 teaspoons of milk. While warm, drizzle powdered sugar mixture on top. Cool and cut into bars.
