Ingredients
- Dates
- 1 1/4 C. boiling water
- 1 C. chopped dates
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- Chocolate Chip Topping
- 1/2 C. semisweet chocolate chips
- 1/4 C. packed brown sugar
- 1 C. all-purpose flour
- 1 Tbs. butter or margarine, softened
- Cake
- 1 3/4 C. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 C. granulated sugar
- 1/2 C. packed brown sugar
- 2/3 C. vegetable oil
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 eggs

Directions
In large bowl, pour boiling water on dates. Stir in 1 teaspoon baking soda. Cool about 15 minutes or until lukewarm.
In small bowl, mix all topping ingredients into date mixture. Set aside.
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Stir all cake ingredients into date mixture. Pour into ungreased 9-inch square pan. Sprinkle with topping.
Bake 50 to 55 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely, about 2 hours.
