Ingredients

  • 4 large firm green tomatoes
  • Salt
  • 2 C. vegetable oil
  • 1 C. buttermilk
  • 1 C. self-rising flour
  • 1 C. self-rising cornmeal mix

Directions

Slice the tomatoes 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick (your preference). Sprinkle each slice with salt and leave alone for about 20 minutes in a colander. In a skillet heat oil over medium. Mix flour and cornmeal together. Then dip tomatoes into the buttermilk and then into the flour mixture and fry until golden brown.

  • EXCELLENT RECIPE! THIS HAS TO BE THE BEST FRIED GREEN TOMATOES I'VE EVER HAD. SALTING THEM BEFORE COATING WORKS WELL, SO YOU DON'T HAVE TO SALT AFTER FRYING. THIS WILL DEFINITELY BE THE WAY I PREPARE THEM FROM NOW ON.
