Sure, rich fruit cakes and plum cakes may be delectable but sometimes it is good to take a break from the rich cake recipes and go back to a basic yellow cake. Donna's yellow cake is a classic plain cake that has the rich aroma of butter and vanilla essence. If you don't like your cake bare then you can add some cream cheese frosting to it but the yellow cake tastes great on its own too! The ingredients for this recipe are very simple and can easily be found in the kitchen.

  • 1 stick unsalted butter
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. In a large bowl whisk together the dry ingredients, i.e. flour, baking powder and salt. Now in a separate bowl beat the butter and sugar together until they are well combined.

Add in the eggs one by one into the butter-sugar mixture and then fold in the dry mixture. Beat well until combined and then add milk and vanilla extract and mix for a short while. Pour the mixture on to a cake mould and bake for 35-40 minutes. Your yellow cake is ready to be served!
