Double Chocolate-Cherry Drops

  • 2 oz. baking chocolate squares, unsweetened
  • 1 1/4 C. flour
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 C. shortening
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 C. sugar
  • 1 lg. egg
  • 2 Tbs. milk
  • 3/4 C. walnuts, coarsely chopped
  • 1/2 C. chocolate chips
  • 12 med. maraschino cherries, chopped and drained

Melt baking chocolate, set aside. Blend flour, baking powder, salt together; set aside.

Beat shortening, vanilla together; gradually add sugar, cream until fluffy. Then add egg, and beat. Mix in the cooled chocolate. Add dry ingredients and milk. Stir in remaining ingredients.

Drop by level tablespoonfuls 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 325 degrees about 10 minutes. Cool slightly before removing.

  • I'm reading this recipe and I think that part of it was left out.what do you do with the chocolate chips , maraschino cherries and walnuts? Are the chocolate chips melted , placed in the middle of the cookie with the maraschino cherry and nuts on top?
