English Toffee Dessert
Ingredients
- 6 oz. vanilla wafers
- 1/4 C. butter or margarine
- 3 eggs, separated
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 C. chopped nuts
- 1 C. sifted powdered sugar
- 1 1/2 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
- whipping cream
Directions
Use rolling pin to make wafer crumbs. Combine with nuts, then spread half of the mixture on the bottom of a 9x9-inch pan. Cream butter and sugar, add egg yolks, which have been well-beaten, melted chocolate and vanilla. Fold in egg whites, which have been stiffly beaten. Pour over wafer nut mixture in pan. Top with remaining crumb mixture. Refrigerate overnight. Cut in squares and serve topped with whipped cream.
