  • 2 ¾ C. flour
  • 1 ¼ C. sugar, divided
  • 1 packet instant yeast
  • Dash salt
  • 1 stick butter, divided
  • 1/3 C. milk
  • ¼ C. water
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 T. cinnamon
  • ½ tsp. nutmeg

In a large bowl, combine flour, ¼ cup of sugar, yeast, and salt. In a saucepan, melt ½ stick of butter and heat milk through. Pour into flour mixture with water, vanilla, and eggs. Mix with a dough hook (or knead by hand) until dough comes together and becomes elastic. Cover and let rise for an hour. In a saucepan, melt remaining butter and heat until browned; set aside. In a small bowl, combine remaining sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Roll dough out into a rectangle, brush with butter, and sprinkle heavily with cinnamon mixture. Slice dough vertically, stack pieces on top of each other, slice again, stack once more, and transfer to a greased loaf pan. Cover once more and let sit for 30 minutes. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes until golden.
