Fried Green Tomatoes With Peppers

These tasty, breaded tomatoes with banana peppers are a must-try.

  • 2 green tomatoes cut in large pieces
  • 3 or 4 hot or banana peppers cut in 6-8 pieces
  • 3 eggs, beaten
  • 2 C. cornmeal
  • 1 1/2 C. flour
  • 2 tbsp. seasoning mix (your favorite blend) salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 1/2 C. vegetable oil

In a mixing bowl, combine tomatoes and peppers. Add 3 eggs, beaten, and let stand for 5 minutes. Ina large plastic bag, mix cornmeal, flour and seasoning mix. Add salt and pepper to taste. Place oil in a large frying pan until it sizzles. Turn oil to medium heat. Coat tomatoes and peppers in cornmeal mixture. Carefully place in oil. Turn when browned. Remove from oil and place on paper towels to drain.
