Ingredients

  • 4 eggs, separated
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1 C. sugar
  • 16 oz. chocolate syrup
  • 1 C. and 1 Tbs. flour
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • Frosting:
  • 6 Tbs. butter
  • 6 Tbs. milk
  • 1 1/2 C. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/2 C. chocolate morsels

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 12x15-inch baking pan. Beat egg whites in large mixer bowl until stiff. Remove from mixer and set aside. Cream butter in small mixer bowl. Add sugar and egg yolks, and beat until sugar is dissolved and mixture is fluffy.


Remove from mixer and fold in egg whites, then fold in remaining cake ingredients. Pour into prepared baking pan and smooth top evenly. Bake 20-25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.


Prepare frosting: Melt butter in saucepan. Add milk and sugar and boil for 2 minutes. Add chocolate morsels and vanilla. Stir until melted, then beat with hand mixer until sugar dissolves and mixture is of spreading consistency. Pour over hot cake. Cool in pan.
