Frosted Maple Pecan White Chip Cookies

These pretty cookies are flavored with maple and vanilla morsels and topped with a simple maple frosting.

Ingredients

  • 3 C. all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 C. packed brown sugar
  • 1 C. vegetable shortening
  • 1/2 C. butter or margarine, softened
  • 2 lg. eggs
  • 1 tsp. maple flavoring
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 C. (12-oz. pkg.) White Morsels
  • 1/2 C. chopped pecans
  • 1 C. pecan halves (about 60)
  • Maple Frosting:
  • 4 C. powdered sugar
  • 4 Tbs. milk (or more if needed)
  • 1/4 C. butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 tsp. maple flavoring

Directions

Combine flour and baking soda in a medium bowl. Beat brown sugar, vegetable shortening, butter, eggs, maple flavoring and vanilla extract in a large mixing bowl until creamy. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in morsels and chopped pecans. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets. 

Bake in preheated 350-degree oven for 9-12 minutes or until light golden brown. Cool on baking sheets for 2 minutes; remove to wire racks to cool completely. Spread with maple frosting and top each cookie with pecan half.

For frosting:

Combine powdered sugar, milk, butter and maple flavoring in a medium bowl; stir until smooth.

  • These are really good. I'll be making these again, but next time I am going to cut down on the chips. With the icing, I don't think you need as many chips because they are really sweet. I took them out while they were still real soft, and they were delicious. They are also good reheated in the microwave.
